World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item allows players to boost an item's gear score up to 700, and then add a final perk. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory and heading to the kiln.
Certain items can be upgraded for their unique stats (like a perfectly broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats such as crit chance, attack damage, PvE and damage to PvP. Weapons also have an unchanging bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. Some weapons also come with an unaffected bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are used in a group. In some instances, this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage that a weapon upgrades by itself.
A weapon's upgrade costs depend on the rarity of the weapon and its current level. For instance an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while a +3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade the gun will increase until it requires a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.
Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. My Web Site is generally a positive thing, but it can also have negative effects. In the case of items that are only used in a specific build (Whistant's shield for FB Sorcs, for example), upgrading them may render them useless unless you happen to have an extremely fortunate roll.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four of them and each one requires you to complete a special side quest that involves the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've done the main side quest and mastered the fountain that corresponds, you can then talk to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.
The amount of material needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. You'll need anywhere from three Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees to upgrade your first armor piece, and anywhere between five Rubies or ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. The Champion Leathers, for instance, can be upgraded to a 5 defense rating, which allows you to keep up in frigid environments with a large group of adversaries. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other is able to be upgraded to +20 defense, which means you're able to survive a battle with your friends.
You can't upgrade armor like weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor for physical power or the power of spells. It is recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you will still be wearing at the end of the story, such as the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you use in the final boss fight the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

Potions

To upgrade a potions simply right-click on it in your inventory. Select "Upgrade" from the menu. In addition, there are lingering potions that are brewed with dragon breath and splash potions. Similarly, a lingering potions' effect is extended by adding redstone to it. The table of potion ingredients is rearranged to look more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added, such as the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket is a small and cheap ornament or piece of jewelry. It could also refer to a small ornament or object that serves a purpose, but isn't important as a trinket. In some cultures, a trinket is used to express affection or friendship between family members.
In addition to weapons, armor and potions, players can upgrade their trinkets. Upgrades can be purchased by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded, can be traded at will without losing stats.
The upgrade vendors are found in major cities and the capital of each zone, and in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are offered using tokens, gold, or fragments from trinkets that are rare.
Upgrading a trinket is a cost-effective alternative to purchasing new ones. You can upgrade a trinket with as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will feature the same base ilvl as the previous one, and will include an additional upgrade bonus of 1.
Once the old Trinkets have become not usable they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase their power and value over time. They can be traded among players and are a viable alternative to gold.
Players must upgrade their most valuable items first. This usually refers to the most valuable-in-slot items for their class, then their secondary items and finally, other pieces of gear that will not be replaced in the near future (for example rings or cloaks). When deciding the items to upgrade, players must also take into account the class's preferred stats. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats for a tank player, then they should upgrade their chest, helm and shoulders.
Trinkets can be re-upgraded to a higher ilvl after they're no longer needed and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional upgrade bonus of 1. However, a re-upgrade can cause the trinket to be destroyed until it is salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an alternative salvage tool that is higher-end. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, however it is still cheaper than purchasing an entirely new trinket.
